As Asia University signed the sister-school contract with Ashland University, the two schools will establish double-degree programs offering students scholarships and tuition waiver to attract Asia University students.
Vice President Dr. Frank E. Pettigrew and Director of Center for Educational Development and ResearchDr. Nathan Myers visited around the campus after signing the contract and were very impressed by the campus, library, art center, as well as the melodic movement classroom in Department of Early Childhood Education. Director of the department, Professor S. T. Chen, mentions that the students in the department will have exchange programs with those at Ashland University next summer vacation: When Asia University students take language courses for four weeks at Ashland University, they only need to pay for airfare, with tuition- and dormitory-waivers. The same policy applies to Ashland University students coming to Asia University for studying Chinese.
Dr. Frank E. Pettigrew commented that seeing the extraordinary growth and excellent management of Asia University, it is an honor to sign the contract with Asia University. Ashland University is an educational university which has students from over 30 different countries. While in the past the university tends to have sister schools from Europe, recently Ashland University turns to cooperate with Asian universities.
Ashland University plans to organize summer culture camp (2010/6/21-2010/7/15) for students from its sister schools: The camp offers courses such as American sports, social problems, American religions, American politics, American music, American history, American popular culture, American education, etc. There are also extracurricular activities such as visiting Cleveland and Columbia City, LakeErie and Niagara Falls, as well as July 4th celebrations and shopping at Easton Mall.
Ashland as located between Cleveland and Columbia is convenient in terms of transportation. While Chinese people are not the majority, this town offers the best environment for language learning. Ashland University is established in 1878 and is one of the oldest university in Ohio and also the university selected continuously as the university with the lowest crime rate.
